PGA Junior League

Spring Program:

2024 PGA Junior League Program

We are pleased to announce that the Steve Bosdosh Golf Academy at PB Dye Golf Club will be hosting a PGA Junior League Spring Season for 17U & 13U. This program is for players that have demonstrated a passion for golf. Our goals are to grow love for golf, to learn the skills, and to discover together what is possible. In a safe and inspiring place for junior golfers to develop their game, we emphasis the importance of relationships and character development. Golf is an excellent vehicle, and it can be a very exciting ride.

Overview:

This is the best place for juniors to learn golf. We have several different categories to best suit your player. Our 13U (9-13 years old) and 17U (14-17 years old) divisions are excellent programs for Competitive to Brand New Players. Players will be matches according to age and ability for the best experience.  All levels of the 13U and 17U programs offer matches and weekly practices. Weekly practices will be 1-hour and matches generally run 3 hours. The format for the matches will be a 2-person scramble match play. For more information on the format, parent involvement, and player expectations, please see below. We also encourage all junior golfers to come practice and expect to run into teammates and friends outside of official team practice hours at PB Dye Golf Club. It is the team’s commitment that makes it special. We specialize in starting players off with the right fundamentals, and developing competitive players for high school, college, and tournament golf. The PGA Junior League is the best program to get beginners started, put pressure on experienced players, and build friendships in a team atmosphere around the game of golf. Please see the

The Program Fee is $400 + $99 PGA Junior League Annual Registration (Spring and Fall League)

Payment for the categorized program will be paid directly to the Steve Bosdosh Golf Academy Staff via credit card, Venmo, cash, or check. Coaching and facility fees are in addition to PGA JL registration fee ($99).

Matches:
Format: 9-hole 2-person scramble match play. If you aren't familiar, no worries. For the first couple of matches, we will pair you up with an experienced player, until you get the hang of it. Basically, 2 players from each team will tee off and the best shot will be picked, then both players will play from there. Balls can be placed within 1 club length no closer to the hole. One putter head width on the putting green. Players can change from rough to fairway or fridge, but not out of a bunker or onto a green. Players may concede puts. Teams then add the points totaled from all the groups and a winner is declared.

Parent involvement - parents are welcome to attend the practices and matches, or feel free to drop your player off. Whatever is best for you. If you are interested in helping out during practice, you are more than welcome. Matches usually run 2.5 hours. If your player cannot make a match, please let me know a few days prior to the match, so that I can reorder the pairings. If you do decide to watch the match, we ask that parents remain on or near the cart path. If pace of play becomes an issue, you can help look for and retrieve golf balls that are not in play. If you would like a cart to drive as you watch, they are available for purchase at the golf shop for $25 at PB Dye - other courses' price may vary. At the SBGA, we try to limit the amount of parent involvement as far as "on the course" coaching. It is actually not really permitted by the PGA Jr League. We encourage players to make mistakes at this age, so they can better learn for the future. We always encourage parents and players to give positive feedback for players' shots and cheer them on!

Player Expectations - players are expected to attend practice when possible and are encouraged to attend Friday as well. Players are expected to have a good attitude and be supportive of all players during practice and competition. Players are expected to have good self-awareness and follow instructions regarding safety. These include: Not standing or walking behind a player swinging; Not swinging when in a group; Not walking in front of players hitting; Taking care of the golf course and practice facility. We will review all these rules and more at practice. There will be times when the players are unsupervised and it will be their responsibility to remain safe. If they are not yet ready for this responsibility, please wait until they are ready. Players are expected to practice well independently or with friends. Players are expected to carry or hand cart their clubs on foot during a match. They may put their clubs on a riding cart for a hole in which they are sitting out, but must still walk with the players and help care for the course and team. We have a range of skill levels. I will do my best to put like skill levels together, but part of this program is mentorship. So, there will be times when a good player will have to carry, coach, and stand-up to the pressure. These are character building moments.
